The Monkey Song

We were clever
And young
Smart
And strong.

Mischievous
And cunning
Bright
And uptight.

Jumping around
One tree
To another
Like a bunch of rowdies.

Just separated
From the mother’s back
Excited and wild
By the nature’s call.

We slipped
We fell
We climbed
We jumped.

Against gravity
Which attracts us down
In the nature of our body
Which is to jump and fly.

Mother away
We swayed
To the nature’s call
Our second teacher.

The tree pushed us
Dropped us
Hit us
And hurt us.

To teach us
To live
To face dangers
And to embark a new journey.

Not kind as our mother
But stricter than our father
It taught us lessons
Without pamper.

Its slap
Harder than our friends
That we earned
When we played foul.

Yet its speech
Softer than ours
The mother of all
Even our parents.

We kicked it
When angry
Got bruised ourselves
For she was hard.

Harder than nut
Crankier than brother
She held us
Like a predator on its prey.

Whacked us with a stick
Punished us with a prick
The hardest branch
Was her strongest instrument.

Gave us food
With lot of love
But when discarded
Turned us upside down.

Complained to mother
She gave not a hear
Were we her dear
We really wondered.

She heard of it
We went pale
Whacked us soft
Felt like nail.

We grew on her
With pain and fun
Loving us
Like her children.

Taught by the nature
The ways of life
We grew strong
And wise and bright.

And those beatings
Washed away
The pain of it
Drowned away.

Now that we stood
Strong and tall
Those lessons were handy
To be kept forever.

We thanked not one
But two
For preaching us
The way they did.

For now we knew why
She gave not a hear
And that we were her dear
By paving the way all clear.
